Attention Solvang Feast Attendees

We want to remind you of a few things regarding the Feast in Solvang:

  1. We want to encourage all of you to bring your personal hymnal to the Feast, as we do not plan to project the hymns on a screen. We will bring some hymnals, but not enough for everyone.
  2. If you are interested in coming to the family dinner prior to the family dance, you need to get your reservation in by Sept. 14. The cost for adults is $15, and the cost for children aged 4 to 11 is $7.50. Mail your reservations to Paul Carter at 14559 Vancouver Ave., Fontana, CA 92336. You can email him with questions at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). We hope to see most of you there for a wonderful late afternoon of fellowship and a delicious meal.
  3. We have had to change the time for a couple of the activities. Be sure to look over the revised activity schedule.

We are still in need of volunteers for several departments. If you would like to volunteer in any area, you can email Mike Blackwell directly at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Solvang Housing Update

Some of you may have gotten an email yesterday from the Marriott about construction going on while we are there and that they cannot guarantee your room type even though you had a guaranteed room. I got one, and it caused some concern. I contacted the hotel yesterday, and the management we are working with assured me that this WILL NOT affect us or our rooms during our stay. They will cease remodeling while we are at the hotel, and all our rooms (including room types) are secure.

On a related matter, the cutoff date for guaranteeing rates and availability at the hotels on our housing list is coming up on Aug. 27. After that date, availability cannot be guaranteed, but room rates will generally be based on availability. If you haven’t yet reserved your room for the Feast, now is the time to do so, in order to guarantee the room and rate. At last check, all hotels on our list still have space available.

Solvang Feast Family Dinner-Dance

All attendees to the Solvang Feast site are invited to our family dinner-dance on Saturday evening, Oct. 3, at the Solvang Veterans Auditorium. We will have services there on Sabbath afternoon; and, following a time for fellowship, we will have a special catered Santa Maria barbecue dinner, featuring beef tri-tip, barbecue chicken, potatoes, vegetable, salad, bread, dessert, and beverages. Cost is $15 per adult (aged 12 and over) and $7.50 per child aged 4 and up. Children under the age of 4 may eat off a parent’s or sibling’s plate at no charge.

We encourage everyone to come. Those who can donate a little more to help those who need a little help are encouraged to do so.

Following the Sabbath, we will have an evening family dance with a wide variety of music for all ages, along with some fun dance games with prizes. Don’t miss this fun-filled evening. Register by filling out the Family Dinner-Dance Order Form and mailing it and your check to the address shown on the form. The deadline for reserving your dinner is Sept. 14.

Important Solvang-Buellton Updates

Hello Everyone,

We have three items we would like to make you aware of:

  1. Attention all potential musicians: We are in desperate need of musicians to serve at the Feast of Tabernacles this year in Solvang. Currently we have only four or five choir members. If you have sung in a choir, sang in school, or maybe even sing in the shower, we could use your help. Special music adds much to the Feast, so please consider volunteering to serve. We are in serious need of musicians. If you are willing to help, please contact our special music coordinator, Scott Lord, at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
  2. If you would like to stay at the Marriott and were told that there is no room, that is not so. There is room for more people at the Marriott. Staying at the Marriott would help the Church as far as overall cost. If you would like to consider changing your reservations to stay at the Marriott, please contact the Festival coordinator, Mike Blackwell, at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
  3. We are planning to have a catered barbecue dinner after services on the weekly Sabbath, Oct. 3, followed by a family dance. The cost of the dinner will be $15 per adult and $7.25 for children aged 4-12. Instructions on making reservations for the evening will be posted on the Solvang Feast web page in a couple of weeks.

Pre-Feast Sabbath Attendance Survey

On the Sabbath just prior to the Feast of Tabernacles (Sept. 26), many members will be planning on attending Sabbath services near the location where they will be celebrating the Feast. We need your help to ensure that we have adequate facilities available for all who might be attending at the Solvang-Buellton, California, site. Please let us know your plans as soon as possible by following the link below.

Thank you for your help!

Housing at the Marriott Hotel in Solvang/Buellton

Some have had difficulty in making reservations at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott, getting a message that all the rooms in the room block are taken. That is not the case. It is true that all the suites are taken. (There was a limited number of them available at the hotel, as the Marriott had to save some for regular clients.) But there are still plenty of king and double queen rooms available.

One difficulty is that our group rate only goes from Sunday, Sept. 27, to Wednesday, Oct. 7. Rooms for the weekend of Sept. 25-26 are available, but at a higher rate. You can reserve at the block rate online by using the code COGCOGA in the group code area. But you will need to put Sunday, Sept. 27, as your check-in date and then call the reservations number to book additional nights.

The reason for this is that the hotels in Solvang are much more expensive on the weekends, and the Marriott was willing to negotiate the rates for one weekend but not two.

Online I just checked for a senior citizen rate for Sept. 25-27 with three to a room, and the rate was $195 per night. If the higher rate is more than you can afford, you can book at one of the other properties for the weekend and then move to the Marriott on Sunday.

We are sorry for the confusion.

Site Description

Nestled in the beautiful coastal Santa Ynez Valley of California, in the middle of almost 40 vineyards, sit the sister cities of Solvang and Buellton. Solvang is a popular vacation getaway location for Southern California. The area was settled by Danish immigrants in the early 1900s and was built in traditional Scandinavian style—a charm it retains today. The cities sit only a dozen miles from the closest California state beach and are within 30 miles of Santa Barbara with its whale-watching cruises and tours of Channel Islands National Park.

The area has many beautiful hiking trails, bike paths (with all types of bikes for rent) and a large lake close by for those who like boating. There are about 30 vineyards that offer tours (and wine tasting) along with a large variety of restaurants. For the children, there is OstrichLand USA, a miniature horse farm and various other attractions.

The Santa Ynez Valley Marriott will be our host hotel for the Feast, but there is a variety of housing available. You may look at the area by going to the following websites:

Solvang and Buellton are only about two hours northwest of the Los Angeles International Airport, yet you are in a small-town, country area and out of all the Southern California traffic. It is truly an almost millennial setting for the Feast of Tabernacles and one that you will long remember.

Tax rate for accommodations: 10 to 12.5 percent.
